Alloy wheels are traditionally manufactured to endure the toughest driving conditions; however, they are not indestructible. Some of the most common causes of rim damage include bumping or rubbing over the curb, driving through potholes and moving over or hitting different objects on the road. Curb damage often occurs in a subtle manner and consequently, goes unnoticed. If you have ever jolted your car on a curb or parked along aside a curb and overestimated your car size relative to a parking space, you may already have a bent wheel and need rims repair or wheel refurbishment. When your wheels hit the cement it grinds the finish and creates gouges in the metal. Driving through a pothole can bend or crack your wheel and negatively affect your vehicle’s overall performance.
Whether your rim damage is superficial or material, it is always in your best interest to have your wheels or rims paint assessed to avoid any further risk of deterioration or danger. As alloy wheel repair specialists, we inspect your rims to determine the necessary course of wheel restoration or repair. Depending on the type of damage, we use different equipment and techniques. In instances where wheels are bent, wobbling or jumping, we can fix them using a professional wheel straightening machine that gives up to 25 tons of hydraulic pressure. In comparison, although straightening a steel rim requires only 15-20 kg of pressure, there is no value in doing that. This machine allows us to do a bent wheel repair without heating up the rim. Only big bends are heated using a maximum temperature of 180 C (356 F). Improper heating of 200 C (400 F) or higher will damage the structure of aluminum. The remedy for cracked wheels, broken pieces, holes or puncture on the rims includes TIG argon welding treatment with a cut, shape and painted finish.
In many cases, we encounter damaged rims with a combination of bends and cracks. We encourage our customers to inspect damage when it occurs. Failure to repair your rims can result in consistent, slow leaks or blowouts and, where there is internal structural failure, the wheel could break apart completely. Even disruption of the paint or scratches on diamond rims, a telling sign that something could be wrong, is often ignored. If you are uncertain about the severity of your rim damage, we recommend leaving it to experts like ourselves to conduct an assessment. We can anticipate the best and worst case scenarios in mag wheel repairs, including how different types of aluminum will react to heating, pushing, grinding etc.
Our aluminum wheel repair specialists offer the best solution for wheel fix. We are always implementing the latest technologies and offering services that will optimize alloy wheel refurbishment to restore your rims to an even better condition that they were in initially. We also work diligently to ensure the shortest possible repair time. The fixed wheel is usually ready for pick up within 1 to 3 days; most powder coated rims are done within 3 to 5 days.
